Greetings!
Been a while hasn't it? Well that can mean something bad or something good has been going on, and in this case, I'm happy to type that it's the latter.
We've made an astounding amount of progress in both pre production, which is finished, and also i our shoots, the first of which went up last Tuesday.
Preproduction was a hurricane of driving back and forth between Santa fe and Albuquerque, manufacturing props, securing locations, acquiring costumes, equipment, food, cars, people, both cast and crew, basically it was a crazy couple of weeks.
I've learned that I need to delegate more efficiently, besides writing, directing, and producing this film, I'm also wearing the hats of the prop master, locations scout, craft services provider, costume designer, and teamster. I haven't been getting as much sleep as I ought, but this is a common problem amongst filmmakers.
I've had a lot of success finding my locations, costumes, and especially vehicles. I found an individual who runs a yard specifically to supply productions with vehicles, and his selection of police cars is nothing short of jaw dropping. It's expensive and calling the guy cranky is giving him all the best of it, but the cars look great and, well what can I say? I need the vehicles for the shoot.
As far as locations go, we're using the Mesa del Sol dragway in Albuquerque, and it's an amazing location, it has everything we need out of the roadway sequences, we even get to use the Ambulance they have hanging around the track in case of accidents! The manager of the track is the exact opposite of the owner of the car yard. The track manager is friendly, cool, and trusting, it's great to work with him.
Costumes look great, I got a bunch from a wholesaler that supplies quite a few law enforcement bureaus, so they go beyond looking authentic; they ARE authentic.
Props, I would have liked some more time to work on, or even better I would have loved to delegate the job to someone I trusted to get it done. However, we work with what we have and, with the great assistance of my brother, we managed to create just under one hundred trophy props to hang on the psychopaths wall.
Our casting calls went great, I found two amazing actors to play our leads, the psychopath and his friend who is the legitimate sheriff of the county. We've had three rehearsals so far to prep for their big dialogue scene, and their progress is astounding. I really can't wait to see their chemistry on screen.
We have started shooting, this last tuesday the fifth we shot down on the dragway location, and it was troubling, I'm not going to lie. We had twenty shots to get and we ended up getting thirteen. However, the shots we did get are amazing, and we learned what to expect out on the track, what obstacles we are facing, what problems might arise. I feel this next Tuesday's shoot down at the track will go a hell of a lot smoother.
We shot our first Interior location shoot this past thursday, and I'm very happy to say that it went perfectly. In fact we actually added shots to the shot list, getting over 15 shots out of a day where we projected getting only 12.
So as far as the basement sequence is concerned, we've got the coverage. I'm also pleased to report that morale on set for the basement shoot was as high as could be, and it was a great shot in the arm to the productions overall morale, which admittedly had been flagging since the less than stellar tuesday shoot.
We have three more days of shooting scheduled, two tuesdays and one friday shoot, and I'm really looking forward to it. Preproduction has paid of and this weekend I'm actually able to do things like work on my other school projects, sleep and write this blog. I hope you're all looking forward to this film, because it's turing out even better than I had hoped, and I really can't wait to see it on the big screen!

Inaugural Post
Welcome! This blog follows the exploits of a student film maker as he embarks upon the creation of his senior thesis, a film in which we follow a particularly idiosyncratic psychopath through his night of exploiting symbols of authority to further his twisted experiments.
At the moment we're solidly in the pre-production phase of the project, with shooting scheduled to commence sometime early april. Currentley casting calls have gone up at NM film to cast the psychopath and his foil, check out craigslist soon 'cause casting calls are going up there too.
Location scouting is next on the list and we've got some great leads to follow up on, potentially a drag-strip will serve as our lonely highway and we're still on the lookout for a house with a well kept basement.
Other events on the horizon are printing up thousands of prop I.D.'s to complete an unnerving trophy wall, watch out for a possible tie-in with our project's Indie Go Go account on that front.
Speaking of which, the Indie Go Go Account is live! Go donate at Indie Go Go Acid Test
More updates soon!
